- PlayStation - Check @AskPlayStation for info on the PlayStation™Network; restart your PlayStation in Safe Mode to clear your cache.
- Xbox - Check @XboxSupport for updates on Xbox Live services; restart your Xbox to clear your cache.
- Check your network connection: verify that your device is connected to your home network. Ensure that the Ethernet cable (if using a wired connection) is properly seated in your device or your device is connected to your Wi-Fi hotspot (if using a wireless connection).
- Restart your device and router: turn off your device and unplug your router for about 30 seconds before plugging it back in. Then, restart your device and check if the connection stabilizes.
- Move your device closer to the router: if you are using a Wi-Fi connection, the distance between your device and the router can affect the signal strength. Move closer to the router to see if it improves the stability of your connection.
- Reduce interference: wireless signals can be interrupted by other electronic devices and walls/objects in your immediate surroundings. Keep your router far away from electronics such as microwaves, cordless phones, or Bluetooth devices.
- Update firmware: make sure that your console (if playing on Xbox or PlayStation) and router have updated firmware. Usually, manufacturers release patches to fix bugs and enhance the overall performance, which could also resolve network problems.
- Check your bandwidth usage: while playing, check if other devices on your network utilize a lot of bandwidth. Usually, it happens due to video streaming or downloading large files. This may impact the quality of the connection on your device. Consider playing in an environment where other devices have their bandwidth usage paused or restricted. Also, make sure that no large data downloads are running on your device while playing a match, as this can affect the connection quality, too.
- Change the Quality of Service configuration of your router: some routers allow you to prioritize internet traffic for particular devices or apps via Quality of Service configurations. Use this feature to improve your connection stability, especially for games you play online with others.
- Switch Wi-Fi channels: most routers allow you to change the main channel in the router settings to find one with less interference.
- Use a wired connection: wired connections offer greater reliability than wireless alternatives. If you are playing over Wi-Fi, consider switching to a wired connection by connecting your device directly to your router.
